Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a diva of 35 summers today!

Kajra re, Kajra re… The light-eyed diva captured the hearts of young and old with her looks, grace and talents. Aishwarya Rai… the name tells it all. Glamour and glitz, fame and popularity. She won the Miss World crown and since then there was no looking back for Aishwarya. Movies after movies, ads after ads. She went on to rule the screen world and is the most recognised face internationally as well. Ash easily earned the tag of ‘The World's Most Beautiful Woman’.
Aishawarya Rai has worked with most of the eminent filmmakers in the industry, equally illustrious co-stars, brands and well-known organisations. To top it all, she was blessed with innumerable prestigious awards and recognitions. She also enjoys a place in London's Madame Tussaud's wax museum, in the form a wax model.
Recently, the actress was honoured by the People’s Magazine. They have brought a special biography on our Ash. It would cover most of her life insiders and give an overview on her 15 year-long filmy journey.
One can truly call her a lucky babe. After her marriage with Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya became a part of Bollywood’s first family and most popular cine pariwar. The adorable couple had graced the Oprah Winfrey Show sometime back; together for the first time and being the first Indian couple to be on the international show.
Ash and Abhi have not only become the hottest stars but also adorable jodi; on and off screen. People are eagerly waiting for their movie, Raavan, Mani Ratnam’s magnums opus. Aishwarya will be seen together with her ‘Dhoom 2’ co-star Hrithik Roshan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Guzaarish’. She also has Vipul Shah’s ‘Action Replay’ in her kitty, where she will act with Akshay Kumar.
This Husn ki Malika turns a year older today.
Hey Aish, “In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.” We at Indiaglitz wish that you add even more zing to the years to come.

Abhishek & Bebo for Abbas Mustan!?

They both stepped into the industry together with ‘Refugee’. Then later again shared the screen in ‘Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon’. Now it seems they will be back! Arre yes! Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor are said to be featuring together in Abbas- Mustan’s next venture.
Sources have it that initially Saif Ali Khan was meant for the lead, but as he did not have dates and Abhishek Bachchan replaced him. However the news is not yet confirmed. This untitled movie is said be a remake of the 2003 Hollywood movie, ‘Italian Job’ and the rights of the movie have been brought by Studio 18. “Abbas, Mustan are working on the script and will also direct the film. The movie will go on the floors sometime next year,” said Sandeep Bhargava, CEO of Studio 18.
Referring to the cast details, he stated that unless the script is ready they can’t approach any actors. Whereas insiders revealed that the movie will also have Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh.
“The film will go on the floors in April and like every Abbas-Mustan film, this too will also be shot on a lavish budget at international locations. The directors are clear about who they want to cast in the film,” added the sources.
It would be nice to see these Bachchan and Kapoor family ke bachche coming together after a long time, following both the families’ cold war.

Illayaraja’s shows in the metro-cities

On one side we have the Mozart of Madras driving the crowd mad with his ‘Jai Ho’ concert all over the country. And on the other hand we have the legendary composer Illayaraja preparing for a similar performance. Music maestro Ilayaraja is gearing-up to hold live music concerts in three major cities of the country. The concert is said to be arranged with the association of the Hungary Symphony Orchestra in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. According to sources, the Mumbai concert will be held on January 26, 2010 and the dates of the concerts in Delhi and Chennai will be announced soon. The legendary composer has already confirmed the news and we hear that, film producers Sheetal Talwar and his wife Bhavna Talwar are investing in it. Sources further add that the maestro will play Tiruvasakam, the popular sacred Tamil hymns at his concerts. Illayaraja is no new man to the Bollywood and the crowd is ready to welcome the legend.

Race-2 ready for the roll

‘Race Saason Ki’- of course, ‘Race’ has been the impassioned talks of buffs over the towns. Inspired from Hollywood’s best thriller-drama ‘Goodbye Lovers’, the duo filmmakers Abbas-Mustan spelled out a stylish-n-slick flick ‘Race’.
At first, the film was bound to controversial buzzes and later turned the spotlights with the fantastic style of exceptional theme. ‘RACE’ boasted about conniving acts of stepbrothers for fetching the honor of riches.
The film featured Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Khanna, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu and Sameera Reddy in lead roles. Now, with Abbas-Mustan have done with the sequel’s final draft, Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor have already signed the deal. Producer Ramesh Taurani of TIPS who churned out ‘Race’ lavishly admits that so far none of the star-casts have been confirmed except Saif and Anil Kapoor.
The film will go straight onto the floors by February 2010.

Sania Mirza watches London Dreams

Indian tennis player Sania Mirza, who is in London to start the build-up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, came face to face with Salman Khan who was put up at the same hotel.
Salman invited Sania and her family for a private screening of London Dreams, which was held at a West End hotel last evening. Salman’s brother, Sohail, and his close family and friends also attended the showing and gave the film a thumbs up.
Salman has been hosted by Studio 18 in London for media engagements to promote his latest Vipul Shah-directed release.

Aamir’s answer to Danny Boyle

Oscar winning director Danny Boyle says that though he had discussed his future project with Aamir Khan, the star has not yet given him a clear cut go ahead. Boyle was reportedly quoted by the PTI as saying, “It’s a fantastic script and we had a very good meeting with Aamir Khan.” There were reports earlier that the film has been titled Bombay Velvet, but Boyle said that like the actor, the title has not been finalized. Anurag Kashyap, the director of Dev D, will wield the megaphone for this venture. One wonders if Aamir’s thirst for an Oscar be quenched by this venture?

Salman is very special:Katrina

In a recent interview Katrina Kaif revealed that Salman Khan is the most special person in her life apart from her mother.
When the interviewer asked her about her relationship with Salman Khan, she replied,” There are two most special people in my life, one is my mom and the other one is definitely Salman, he is very special.”
Well we hope this special relationship between Sallu-Kat will move onto next level. It would be great to see them in their wedding outfits.

Saif’s leafy tattoo

At the recent Lay’s event, one couldn’t help but notice the tattoo on Saif Ali Khan’s right hand, well it’s for Lays ‘Give us you DILlicious Flavor campaign.
The campaign aims at getting their next chips flavor from the consumers itself. The campaign will have consumers creating their own Lay’s flavor and get a chance to bag Rs.50 lakhs price money.
Saif says, “Just as I have my own take on what flavour I like on Lay’s, every Indian has their favourite too. Personally, I am excited how the campaign will go. It has all the ingredients of a great thriller. ‘Give Us Your Dillicious Flavour’ is being supported by a 360° marketing mix with an idea of consumers expressing their flavour though body art.”
Well that explains his leafy tattoo. By the way folks what is your favorite Lay’s flavor? Mine is American Style Cream and Onion and Spanish Tomato.

Kareena wishes goodluck for Shahid

Most of our Bollywood actress keep mum about their current relationships, leave alone talking about their past, but Kareena Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty are exception, who talk about everything without blinking an eye.
When Kareena Kapoor was recently quizzed whether she is still in contact with ex beau Shahid, she said, “No, we are not in touch. Shahid and I shared a wonderful relationship in the past, the least we can do is wish each other well. At least I know I do that from my side.”
Hmmm, are you listening to the good wishes Shahid?

NDTV Imagine a rapidly growing TV channel in India will air a reality show called ‘Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka’. The contestants in this show will be hypnotized to speak out the secrets about their past lives.
The show will be a weekly show with 26 episodes.
A close source informs, “Till now, there are only 26 episodes allotted for the show and Sushmita Sen is the first contestant of the show followed by Sanjay Dutt. Karisma Kapoor shot for the show yesterday and she was shocked with the revelations of her past life”.
The source says, “Yes, the producers are putting in a huge amount and tell me tell you, this show will become one of the best shows ever seen on television”

He was her last resort for her critically-acclaimed directorial debut “Luck By Chance”. But for her second film Zoya Akhtar has specially written a part for brother Farhan.
“It’s a road movie set in Spain about three boys and one of the three characters is definitely Farhan. I knew I wanted him. I was very clear that I wanted to work with him again,” said Zoya.
Daughter of well-known lyricist Javed Akhtar, Zoya informed that her writer filmmaker-actor brother will not only act in the film, but also pen the dialogues for it.
“I am writing this film with Reema Kagti. I’m wrapping up the script but as of now it is not locked yet. Then probably I’ll sit with Farhan for the dialogues and the casting,” she said.
Throwing light on the film, she said: “It’s a coming of age genre. But it’ll be simpler than Luck By Chance’ and simpler to understand. A feel-good factor will be there in that sense,” said Zoya on the sidelines of the ongoing 11th annual Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema.
Asked is her movie was in any sense a follow up to the upcoming Abhay Deol-starrer “Road Movie”, she said: “The trend’s been there. Look at Jab We Met’. It is a road film. It’s got that vibe of a road movie. And the promos to the Road Movie’ are gorgeous too.”

Sanjay Dutt has been shooting with much younger Kangna Ranaut for “Knock Out” and if they look compatible in spite of the latter being half his age, it’s all because of a special ketosis diet – a high-fat, low-carbohydrate food.
“Sanjay went on this special diet in June. It required him to take lots and lots of fattie food and no carbohydrates at all. In fact carbs would’ve been potentially lethal for this diet. In no time Sanjay started losing weight. And that too without having to give up his favourite food,” a source close to Sanjay told IANS.
The 50-year-old, who is looking trimmer, plays an assassin out to get his victim with a sniper rifle in Mani Shankar’s “Knock Out”.

“London Dreams” is Vipul Shah’s first film that doesn’t star Akshay Kumar. While the filmmaker missed his favourite actor, he says he thoroughly enjoyed working with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn and loved their dynamism.
“When you work with people with whom you have never worked before, there are two ways to look at things. Firstly, you do miss your favourite actor and…I have been associated with Akshay for so long. On the other hand, you have to start enjoying the process of working with the new bunch of people. Thankfully, both Salman and Ajay allowed me that comfort level,” Shah told IANS.
Shah teamed up with Akshay in his directorial debut “Aankhen”, followed by “Waqt – Race Against Time” and “Namaste London”. Later when he decided to rope in Anees Bazmee as director for “Singh Is Kinng”, Akshay was once again by his side. All these films worked well at the box office.
“Akshay and me go a very long way. It is absolutely a great rapport that both of us share and it’s a treat to work with him. However, I have to admit that since I was working with Salman and Ajay for the first time, I had to be on my toes all the time. That further made it an enjoyable experience for me,” he said.
The director has brought Salman and Ajay together 11 years after “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam”.
Talking about the two, he said: “In any case, both these actors are beyond hits and flops today. They have been there for 20 years now and seen the industry and its trends quite closely. Moreover, they enjoy worldwide popularity and are known all over.
“They have a huge reach and impact which should bring in audiences. After they get an opening, it should be the film which should do the talking. If it is good, it would work. Period.”
Shah is also all praise for Asin Thottumkal, who would be seen in “London Dreams” a year after her debut Bollywood flick “Ghajini” opposite Aamir Khan.
“It is challenging for any actress to stand in front of terrific actors and stars like Salman and Ajay. However, the best part is that though she is a fresh face for Hindi audiences, she has worked with Kamal Haasan and other big stars down south.
“She knows how to make her presence felt amidst big stars and not to get conscious, upset or scared. It’s that kind of confidence that puts her at par with the actors,” the director said.
“She comes with that definite advantage. Since she has already dealt with one huge star like Aamir, her confidence shows. She is not scared of stars and comes across as so fresh on screen. This is so good for any director,” he said.
With an intense drama like “London Dreams” in front of audiences, Shah knew that he had a task in hand.
“While making the film, I had to work towards creating a comfort zone for my actors. Audiences should walk out of theatres saying that other than just Akshay, Vipul can extract good work from Ajay and Salman as well. That would be my win from the film,” Shah said.

LONDON DREAMS MOVIE REVIEW

Starring: Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan, Asin, Om Puri, Khalid Azmi, Michael GamaranoDirection: Vipul ShahMusic: Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani, Loy MendoncaProduction: Headstart Films UK Limited, Blockbuster Movie Entertainers
London Dreams has been in news for more than a year now and finally the time for its release has dawned upon us. Vipul Shah the man with the Midas touch who made 'Aankhen', 'Waqt', and ‘Namaste London' and produced the blockbuster 'Singh is Kingg' is back behind the camera for this mammoth musical drama. Vipul also takes the extra burden of being the co-producer of this movie with Headstart movies, UK.This first Indo-UK collaborated movie is about a musical genius named Arjun(Ajay Devgan) whose only aim is to play at the Wembley stadium. Being a goal-oriented person, he tries to avoid any distractions that could deter his way towards his dream and that also include an attractive girl in his band Priya (Asin). His band London Dreams slowly gets popular and touches the peak when Arjun brings his childhood friend Munnu (Salman) from a small village in Punjab who excels in singing. His freakish charm makes him an instant hit amongst the audience.

Arjun realizes that his dream is being taken over unwittingly by Munnu and when Munnu also gets a nod from Asin, Arjun loses it and decides to take the grey route to success, fame and glory at the expense of his friendship. Will Arjun be successful in doing that forms the rest of the story. Vipul, who showed his talents in his earlier movies, proves once again why he is considered to be a top director by making a visually stunning movie with almost flawless direction. Some scenes like Ajay Devgn talking to a drunken Salman about being sorry for what he is about to do is poetic brilliance. Salman Khan's misadventures in the flight are entertaining. Though Salman Khan's dialogues in the climax are melodramatic it works for the scene brilliantly. But the movie suffers due to few reasons, like some sloppy transitions, unwanted songs and most of all selecting Ajay Devgn to play a rock-star. He is a star alright and the emotional scenes proves how much he has improved as an actor but the character needed a person who is much more energetic on screen and especially on-stage, which he lacked completely. The introduction scenes of all the lead, except Ajay, have been done badly; especially Asin who comes into the picture from no-where and ends up in the band. The pre-climax in the Wembley stadium is laughable, with 90000 people in the audience waiting for Ajay to utter some Hindi dialogues and sending their empty water bottles up in the sky on a regular basis is not at all acceptable. Salman Khan's energy works well with the movie and he also impresses in the emotional sequences. Asin is brilliant even if her role demanded lesser histrionics she showcases her talents quite well. Ranvijay is good as one of the musician in the band and Adithya Roy Kumar also does his bit convincingly. Om Puri is at his dignified best. Other important aspect which elevates the movie is its cinematography. This award-worthy work behind the camera by Sejal Shah demands applause from the audience from start to finish. The editing by Amitabh Shukla is with flaws but impressive at most places. Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy which should have been extraordinary with this being a musical is just about passable with two exceptions - Barsoon Yaaro and Khwab ko - which stays with you for a long time. The lighting and costumes need special mention. The movie is high on the emotional quotient like Vipul's last two directorial ventures but will 'London Dreams' sustain at the box-office as they did will be interesting to see. But overall, a decent movie with some interesting performance and amazing camera work . Verdict: Vipul's Indian Dream impresses, but not completely

Aladin Movie Review, Aladin Bollywood Hindi Movie 2009Aladin lacks charm, wizardry and mystiqueBe careful what you name your child. One wrong name and his/her life can turn into a living hell for the longest time to come. Remember the never-ending ridicule Chironjilal Khosla (Khosla Ka Ghosla ) had to encounter?Aladin , spelled without the more familiar double D, too suffers a worse fate what with kids bullying him into rubbing lamps. Turns out it wasn't such a bad idea after all when Aladin truly rubs one and pop comes a wish-granting genie, Genius (Amitabh Bachcan). Three good-as-new wishes would end in a happily-ever-after, you'd think? If only Sujoy Ghosh's contemporary take of the popular Arabian fantasy was this uncomplicated. Instead a flawed narrative lays out a lot of plots but doesn't present any subtext to convince or justify the same. Like the entire fuss about a power-lending comet, a hostile circus troupe or the on-going rivalry between two genies, there's a hint of an untold back-story which remains, well, untold.Breaking from the fairy-tale's original plot, Ghosh inserts a whole lot of elements which, unfortunately, rob the film of its charm, wizardry and mystique. For one, Aladin (Riteish Deshmukh ) is no street urchin but a lanky college-lad who loses his parents at an early age under mysterious circumstances. He lives in the imaginary city of Khwaish (which bears resemblance to Lord of the Ring's Minas Tirith) -- somewhere above North India and below China, we are told. And when not a butt of class bully Qasim's (Sahil Khan) ruthless albeit repetitive jokes, he's often found at Marjina's (Ratna Pathak) cafe.In a Disney animation, such parts are essayed by the likes of Beauty and the Beast's Gaston and Mrs Potts. They along with a bunch of spunky monkeys, all-knowing birds and talking trees are known to provide the mandatory laughs. Aladin, however, only has a bird-brained performance of Sahil Khan and shamelessly wasted Ratna Pathak Shah to offer. There's some respite after Big B's Genius makes his entry with a rather lame jig only to follow it with yet another musical. Behind the look that appears to be a cross between V (V for Vendetta) and Vijay Mallya (the entrepreneur), speaks the man you've grown to love, adore and forgive for an average performance. His young co-stars Riteish Deshmukh and newcomer Jacqueline Fernandes do well for themselves. Deshmukh lends his Aladin a touch of earnest and goofy, which makes him believable even if not someone you care to root for. Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline exudes a ravishing screen-presence that has the potential to be honed into something along the lines of Katrina Kaif .Aladdin revolved around greed, ambition and both -- misuse and bonus of magic. But the manner in which its modern-day avatar goes about squandering his three wishes suggests either he's really daft or completely disenchanted towards magic. The only thing that grabs Aladin's undivided attention is the hot new college girl, Jasmine (Jacqueline). As seen in a million Bollywood flicks, she steps out of her car, flashes a charismatic smile and our hero falls head over heels in love. Barring one funny first date sequence, their chemistry lacks the loveliness of a Once upon a time...A spate of songs, after every few minutes, doesn't help either. Not only do these Vishal-Shekhar creations break the momentum but their picturisation leaves a lot to be desired. Especially O re Saawariya , which is nothing more than an extension of Big B's Navratan tel commercial, also shot by Ghosh. There are moments where you are fooled into believing great action lies ahead. That's where Sanjay Dutt (Dutt doing a evil Munnabhai in Mandrake's costume) as the vicious Ringmaster, a comic villain comes in the picture along with his motley crew of a masked flame thrower, a cackling clown, a bald knife thrower and a menacing killer giant. What initially sparks off your interest is later reduced to a groan-inducing exercise in cheesy narcism and humour -- 'Tum ho to ball ke liye free passes milenge' or 'Yo brother, genie years main abhi teenager hoon'.Considering its fantasy genre, the visuals do not inspire awe but are quite alright, which is better than tacky any day. While Sabu Cyril's art design inspired by the architecture of Cambridge, Rome, Egypt and Konark deserves a pat on the back, Sirsha Ray's cinematography disappoints with its conventional angles, lighting and overdose of close-ups.A subject like this calls in for spectacular imagery laced with wonder and intrigue. And so one expects the battle between two ancient genies in the climax to be much more than standard dishoom-dishoom.What Ghosh dishes out in its place is some half-hearted hocus-pocus, a clumsy mix of old world lore with contemporary indifference, sloppy trips to the flashback and awkward bursts of forced sentimentality.Make a wish, Genius insists. Too late for that, isn't it?

Cry or Laugh – Mugdha’s easiest task?

With her slim ‘n’ sizzling looks in ‘Fashion’, she just swept us off our senses leaving us speechless. But this time in ‘Jail’, she’s procures about donning a contrastive take with her glamour stripped out. Mugdha Godse, the sensational fille plays out a best spell in shifting paradigms with kind of roles she performs. So, ask her about her favorite roles amongst three flicks of different genre – ‘Fashion’, ‘All The Best’ & ‘Jail’ and she says, “Everything is close to my heart.”
Says Mugdha: ‘I felt completely challenging with unparalleled genres of pragmatic film ‘Jail & Fashion’ and then with comedy entertainer like ‘All The Best’. But I felt crying to be the easier part as bringing smile and creating mirthful situation isn’t an easy deal.’
It’s noteworthy that Mugdha has to be a special actress for having been casted in Madhur’s upcoming film (usually he doesn’t repeat his actors in other films). “Well, I had even questioned Bhandarkar about this as he said – It’s all about challenge of portraying me completely different from the previous film in a deglamorized role.”

When ‘Aladin’ made wishes come true

These days, promotional activities have turned to be the most essential attributes of making your films happen at best in box office. With ‘Aladin’, it wasn’t merely about actors getting them involved over it, but laid a sort of opportunity of making the wishes of ‘Aam Loag’ come true.
Yeah! It was all about the sensational contest – ‘Aladin Make A Wish Contest’ where Big B himself was spotted along with Riteish Deshmukh and Jacqueline Fernandez at JW Marriott on Wednesday night…
Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh wasn’t present there and later appeared on the dais shaking his legs and made up for everyone’s delight.
The winners of the lucky draw were gleaming to receive prizes, that too from the hands of their favourite star, Big B himself. Having spoken about their movie and the ‘magical world’ we live in, one could feel the enthusiasm of the stars in being a part of this majestic movie.
Ardent buffs felt like paradise coming down on earth as they shook hands with Amitabh Bachchan. Big B was spotted cheerful shooting the breeze with the fans, clicking pictures and signing autographs. Ritesh and hottie Jacqueline were the centre of attraction and made them available to click pictures with the guests.

Blue director apologises an upset John

The grapevines were buzzing with Anthony D’souza’s next venture after ‘Blue’. It was said that the director was to bring a movie titled ‘Aerial’ with John Abraham-Sonal Chauhan in the lead. It was also in the air that Anthony will bring a sequel of ‘Blue’, also with John. Now the hot-hot we hear is that the actor was not aware of it and the director had not approached with such offers. In fact John was infuriated with the false news spread by the director.
According to sources, John categorically told Anthony that it was not right on his part to announce him being part of his films that too when they had not even discussed anything. John made his displeasure quite evident. Anthony apologised and assured John that he wouldn’t mention the actor’s name in the media again.
It is believed that John is not the one who loses his cool easily, but these news really made him upset and angry that he will star in both the movies. Whereas, John stated, “I have immense respect for Anthony and the fact that he wants to work with me. However, I am neither doing any film titled Aerial nor any underwater film. I am also not doing Blue 2.”
John always respects newcomers, but according to him, Anthony chose a wrong way to gain publicity, sources further added. Hmm, John couldn’t take this Garam Masala, we say.

“Basra” will be out of the box: Abhay Deol

As an actor he loves to experiment and as he turns producer with “Basra”, Abhay Deol promises to be high on content. He says the action thriller will not only keep audiences on the edge of their seats but also make them think.
“There are three genres — romance, comedy and action. They are mainstream inherently; so what I’m doing is taking a commercial genre and within it experimenting a little bit,” Abhay told IANS in an interview.
The film is going on the floors early next year. Abhay has roped in Navdeep Singh of “Manorama Six Feet Under” to helm the project that will feature him along with Shahana Goswami and another girl whose name has been kept secret.
” ‘Basra’ is high on content, but a good dose of action sequences will make it edgy and pretty dark as well. In other words, it is a mainstream movie but also has something that will make people think and keep them on the edge of their seats,” he said.
“The thing about action films is that they are high on drama in terms of action sequences, have songs and other things, but content is secondary. For me, the idea was to get something that has content so that the action has some meaning. That’s when ‘Basra’ came in,” he added.
The 32-year-old was launched by his uncle Dharmendra with “Socha Na Tha” in 2005. He then went on to prove his mettle with films like “Ahista Ahista”, “Manorama Six Feet Under”, “Ek Chalis Ki Last Local”, “Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd” and more recently “Dev D”.
When asked what motivated him to don the producer’s hat, Abhay revealed: “I had bad experiences in the past, with ‘Manorama…’ being the classic example where the director did his job – he made it well, actors gave their level best but when it was the producer’s turn to distribute and market the film, it was nowhere to be seen.
“Not just ‘Manorama…’, I had been through this for some of my other films too. I realised that I need to protect my films because the director will move on, the producer will move on too but as an actor I will be considered a flop if things will not work.
“I also realised I need to protect myself,” he explained.
Along with that he also wanted to give a platform to new and dynamic directors to make films that have quality content.
“The idea was also to provide platform to filmmakers to make the kind of movies they want to make — probably high on content, low on budget. Let’s see where the formula goes and then I will take it from there,” said the actor, who was in the capital to attend the 11th Osian’s Cinefan film festival where two of his films, “Dev D” and “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!” were screened.
So does he plan to sign his cousins Sunny and Bobby Deol for his home productions?
“I would love to sign them for my films but it also depends on whether the role is right for them. So I don’t think I will be able to approach them for my first venture, but something in the future definitely,” said Abhay.
Right now the actor is excited about his upcoming film “Road” with Dev Benegal and his romantic film “Ayesha” with Sonam Kapoor.

Shahid Kapoor’s “Paathshala”, which has been ready for the last one year, will finally hit screens next year and the actor says his role is substantial even though it is not long enough.
“‘Paathshala’ is small in comparison to some other films that I am doing. Moreover, I not a quintessential hero in the film. However, it isn’t as if I have a special appearance in the film, as has been speculated by some. I have a substantial role that lasts for 30-40 minutes in the film,” Shahid, who had two releases — “Kaminey” and “Dil Bole Hadippa” this year –, told IANS.
“Paathshala” was earlier being co-produced by choreographer-turned-filmmaker Ahmed Khan with Big Pictures. However, as per current developments, Eros International would be presenting the film.
The first look of the film was revealed a year ago with “Karzzzz”. It was expected that the film would release in January 2009, but it continued to move ahead. Directed by award-winning Marathi film director Milind Ukey, “Paatshala” is expected to release in the first half of 2010.
“Yes, the film moved from Big Pictures to Eros and they would be making plans to line up the film in a proper manner. However, I am sure they would have the right campaign in place for the film’s release. The film has to be protected and released when there is no other film of mine coming up,” said Shahid, who plays a teacher in it.
The film brings together Ayesha Takia with Shahid after “Dil Maange More” and “Fool-N-Final”. Incidentally, the two had worked together years ago as child artists in the famous commercial for the health drink Complan.
The film also stars Nana Patekar along with child artists Swini Khara, Ali Haji and Dwij Yadav.
Set against the Indian education system, “Paathshala” deals with contemporary and socially relevant issues regarding children. It claims to carry a heartfelt message for children, parents and teachers.
“It’s a very socially relevant film and talks about the education system in the country. I am really happy to have played a role in it. I have seen the rushes of the film and really cried throughout. I get really emotional when watching a film. Even during ‘Taare Zameen Par’, I cried throughout and was looking around me if anyone was watching me,” he said.
Unlike “Taare Zameen Par”, which was shot on real locations, “Paathshala” was filmed on a set. To give it an authentic look, Khan had erected a massive set of a school at Film City — it consisted of class rooms, dormitories, principal’s cabin, staff rooms, half a dozen huge corridors, basket ball court, garden, assembly hall, music room and canteen.

Aishwarya And Abhishek Come Together

My wedding date has been finalised: Shilpa Shetty

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty says that her wedding date has been finalised, but she will announce it only when her sister Shamita is by her side.
“I know everyone’s eager to know about the wedding date. All I can say is yes it’s been finalised and I will make an official announcement as soon as I know when Shamita’s coming out,” Shilpa, who got engaged to London-based Raj Kundra Saturday after a courtship of about two years, posted on her blog.
Shamita is currently participating in the Colors’ reality show “Bigg Boss 3″. She is locked in the house with 10 more inmates and has no connection with the world outside.
Shilpa says she missed her sister.
“It’s been a time of both joy and sorrow for me. The joy is obvious because Raj and I feel happy to take our relationship to the next level, but as most of you know my sister Shamita is still in the ‘Bigg Boss’ house and could not attend. She doesn’t even know.
“The date was decided a week ago and we all came to the consensus that we should go ahead because another good mahurat (auspicious time) was a long way off. And considering Raj’s parents and relatives were down from London for a week, so it seemed convenient,” she wrote.
“I wanted to have Shamita there during this special moment, but I had to be considerate towards Raj’s family too. So for all those who wanted to know why I went ahead without Shamita, it was a difficult decision but this is the answer.”
Shilpa admits that when her sister comes out of “Bigg Boss” house, the news of the engagement will shock her.
“I know Shamita will be shocked… she’ll kill me. Missed her more than words can describe but I’m sure she’ll understand! Can’t wait to show her my ring,” she wrote.
So far Shilpa has not commented on her sister’s stay in “Bigg Boss” house. But now she says that she is proud of Shamita.
“I’ve never commented on what I think of her in there, but just want to say she’s been the pampered baby in our house. It made our whole family so proud to see her have no airs and do all the chores with no qualms,” wrote Shilpa who won the British reality show “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2007.
“She’s never cooked in her life and I saw her make rotis. I felt terrible watching her cry on TV, but I am amazed to see her growth on the show. This will definitely make her a stronger person. So proud of the way she’s conducting herself with so much dignity.”

Dev D actress Mahie Gill going places in Bollywood

Punjabi actress Mahie Gill, who made her mark in Bollywood as Paro in Anurag Kashyap’s “Dev D”, is on a high as her kitty is full of prestigious projects. However, the actress maintains that the road to success was not that easy.
“It is very difficult to create a place for yourself in the industry. I struggled my way through it. By chance Anurag saw me in a party and I got ‘Dev D’; otherwise things wouldn’t have shaped this way,” Mahie told IANS here.
Talking about her days of struggle, she said: “When you dress up every morning, go for auditions and at the end of the day you don’t get work, you feel bad. Sometimes you feel that you are better than the other person, still you don’t get work. That’s when you feel very frustrated. But one needs to be patient.”
The actress was in the capital to attend the 11th Osian’s-Cinefan Film Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema.
Her next release is Tigmanshu Dhulia’s “Paan Singh Tomar”. She teams up with Irrfan Khan in the film, which is scheduled for release in February next year.
Talking about “Paan Singh Tomar”, Mahie said: In this film, I am playing Paan Singh Tomar’s wife. He was an athlete who later became a dacoit. His wife is still alive. She is very old now. I am playing a woman who is very talkative and short tempered.”
The actress had to darken her complexion for the role.
When asked about the experience of working with an actor like Irrfan, the 33-year-old said: “It was great working with Irrfan. He is such a wonderful actor.”
As far as her future projects are concerned, she has signed two films to be made by Abhinav Kashyap. She is also doing Arbaaz Khan Productions’ “Dabang” and a Saurabh Shukla film, which is tentatively titled “Bhaang”.
Mahie has also signed a film with Naseeruddin Shah called “Surmai Shaam”. It will be helmed by debutant director Bhramanand Singh. Then there is action film “Gulaab Gang” that also stars Tabu and Raveena Tandon.
After completing her masters in theatre, Mahie got her first break with Punjabi film “Havaayen” and then did couple of more like “Mitti Wajaan Maardi” and “Chakk De Phatte”.
Asked if she would like to return to theatre, the actress said: “I really want to do theatre. Right now I don’t get the time to do that, but some day I will definitely do it. I will be meeting Naseeruddin Shah very soon; so maybe one day I happen to do theatre with him.”

Karan Johar’s film to create 200 jobs in Sydney

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar’s Hindi remake of “Stepmom” will be shot in Sydney and will create 200 jobs for people in the Australian city, said Virginia Judge, minister assisting the Premier on the Arts.
“This movie will take Sydney to Bollywood and an audience of more than one billion people. This is the first Australian production from one of Bollywood’s most iconic filmmakers Karan Johar,” said Judge Tuesday in a press statement.
To be directed by Siddharth Malhotra, the film is inspired by director Chris Columbus’ 1998 hit drama “Stepmom”, a heartwarming tale of two women – divorced Susan Sarandon and the new woman (Julia Roberts) in her ex-husband’s life – and the problems they face to find a common ground of understanding.
“We are excited to showcase the very best that Australia has to offer and we hope to bring back some of the infectious spirit and charm that has become synonymous with Australia and Australians,” said Karan, who is producing it under his banner Dhama Productions.
The Hindi remake stars Kareena Kapoor and Kajol and it will be extensively shot in Sydney.
“A film-friendly place with the best locales worldwide all in one city and suited to the requirements of my script. Besides, one needs to work with good people so what better place than Sydney,” said Malhotra.
Dharma has hired Sydney-based TEMPLE as the Australian production company.
“Karan Johar is India’s iconic filmmaker and represents the modern professional brand of Indian cinema. His company’s decision to film in New South Wales (NSW) will not only take Indo Australian film links to a higher level but will also provide opportunity for Australian films and stories to develop collaborative links with India.
“Dharma filming in NSW is the ultimate compliment to Australia from Bollywood and as a filmmaker I am hoping this will result in deeper collaborations and co-productions between India and Australia,” said Anupam Sharma, filmmaker and Head of the Australian production company Films and Casting Temple.

Salman Khan fans go berserk in Indore

Police in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city had to cane charge some Salman Khan fans who had resorted to violence at Nehru Stadium where the Bollywood star came late and stayed only a few minutes before leaving for an event.
A large number of people had gathered in and around the stadium as Salman was scheduled to play a cricket match organised to promote one of his films to be released shortly, police said.
But the Bollywood star reached the venue five hours late and left after few minutes without playing the match.
“This enraged the people who went out of control and threw chairs all over the stadium… Police used a cane-charge to chase away the crowd which went berserk since Salman who was supposed to be here at 10 a.m. reached after 3 p.m. and that too for a very short while. The situation is now under control,” said Indore Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Jindal.

Former Miss India Neha Dhupia, who flashed a million dollar smile while sashaying down the ramp Sunday at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) for designer Kavita Bhartia, wonders why models don’t flash a smile during catwalk.
“I have always wondered why models always walk the ramp with a straight face. Why don’t they ever smile? Even during my modelling days, I used to wonder about it,” Neha said after the show.
“But then I guess, if beautiful models will start smiling, they will completely take the show away from the designer’s clothes,” she added.
Dressed in a black ruffled dress teamed up with a bust jacket-like top with metallic gold embellishments on it, Neha delivered a perfect catwalk sans any extra drama on the stage.
“I was very impressed with Kavita’s collection and I was eyeing this gold jacket when I came in. I didn’t know it was for me. I was really glad that she had planned that I will wear it,” said Neha.
The actress, who is awaiting the release of her film “De Dana Dan”, was not even a wee bit nervous before walking the ramp. “I was excited,” she said.
Talking about her movie, she said: “‘De Dana Dan’ is an out and out comedy. It has a lot of people in it. The phrase – ‘The more the merrier’ perfectly suits it. But I hope people enjoy the film.”
Neha, who has been chosen by Hollywood actress-singer Jessica Simpson to be the Indian Beauty ambassador for her TV show “Price Of Beauty”, has five films in the pipeline to be released within six months.
It includes “Raat Gayi Baat Gayi”, “Pappu Can’t Dance Saala”, “Raftaar 24X7″. She will also feature in Vipul Shah’s “Action Replay” along with Aishwarya Rai and Akshay Kumar.
“Action Replay is expected to release next summer,” she said.

When Big B and Riteish were wary of Shiamak

Selective when it comes to Bollywood assignments, Shiamak Davar got interested in “Aladin” when told by director Sujoy Ghosh that “Genie Rap” was a song designed for kids. Insiders however claimed it wasn’t really an easy track to put in place as the actors – Amitabh Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh — were wary of the choreographer.
The first and foremost reason for it was Shiamak’s reputation of making his actors go through some unusual dance moves.
Riteish, who plays the title role in “Aladin”, said: “The moment I was told that the song would be choreographed by Shiamak, I knew that I had to get my act right. Of course I have enjoyed success with a few dance numbers over the years, but one is always wary of dancing to the steps created by someone like Shiamak.”
“Make A Wish” a.k.a “Genie Rap” has been on the air for a month now and has found an immediate connection with the audiences. A delightful track with the colour red holding prominence in a majority of frames, it carries a good
visual appeal.
Other than highly colourful picturisation, there is also the presence of Amitabh, Riteish, a couple of dozen gorgeous dancers, some cool VFX and of course a foot tapping tune created by composers Vishal and Shekhar. Of course the man who has added his own flavour to the entire package is none other than Shiamak.
“See, Shiamak has an entirely different approach to making your body move, something which is not really conventionally Bollywood. Right from the days of ‘Dil To Paagal Hai’, we have seen how innovative he is. You have to unlearn a lot of things to grasp what he wants you to do. I too was a little wary earlier on, but then constant rehearsals made me a lot more comfortable when I went for the take,” confesses Riteish.
Apparently it was not just Riteish but also Amitabh who knew that it was going to be quite a challenging assignment to get into the act for Shiamak-choreographed “Genie Rap”.
“Well, Shiamak does come with a reputation and it was a happy sign for me to see my actors getting into the preparation mode for the song. The final effect shows and when I see the response of viewers the world over, I am assured that the hard work and commitment of everyone involved has paid off,” says Sujoy.
A co-production of Sunil Lulla from EEros International and Sujoy’ Boundscript, “Aladin” is all set for release this Friday.
