Any amount of words won’t be enough to praise the talents of this ‘Queen of Bollywood’. Asha Bhosle who turns 76 today, has given the musical world her rich contributions, through different dialects and genres as well. Being a sis of an equally distinguished singer Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle captured listeners from all over the globe.
Marathi, Hindi, Punjabi, Assamese, Bengali, Urdu, Telugu, Gujarati, Tamil, English, Russian, Czech, Nepali, Malay and Malayalam - Ashaji has earned attentive ears from all these regions. Who can stop oneself from sinking into the magic of “Aao huzur tumko” song? Or one can just visualize Rekha teasing with her dreamy eyes, thanks to Ashaji’s “Dil cheez kya hai”? Helen would grate her hips singing cabaret songs sung mostly by Bhosle. In those days, girls used to win over their lover with her “O Mere Sona Re”. But as the days passed the modern ones were bowled over with Ashaji’s “Rangeela Re”. Over the years, Asha Bhosle became the musical voice for many successful actresses and even sang for several aspiring young heroines.
Many of her albums were as popular as her movies. Her albums were usually featured with well-known models or film actors. Initially her albums were remix version of her husband’s songs, a great music composer and singer, RD Burman. She gave ‘Janam Samjha Karo’ with Leslie Lewis, an album which went on to receive several acclaims and love. Unlike her sister, Ashaji sang mostly for hipper genres, more suited for the younger listeners.
Now, the musical granny has sung for an album, for her grandson, Chuintu. Chintu is a well-known face and singer who is a part of the popular troop, ‘A Band of Boys’. Released yesterday by Asha Bhosle, ‘Sapne Suhane’ is his first solo album brought out under Times Music. Ashaji has sung a rock-n-roll track, ‘Pyaar Khushnaseeb’, in the album. The launch was teamed with the birthday celebration for Ashaji.
